Gas Processing Station Case Study

Midstream services are an integral part of transporting natural gas, crude oil, condensate, and NGL commodities across the United States. With an expansive gathering, processing, fractionation, transportation, and logistics assets are located across the U.S. pipelines and are strategically focused on core growth areas of the Permian’s Midland and Delaware basins, Oklahoma’s Midcontinent, and Louisiana’s Gulf Coast. This particular customer operates approximately 11,000 miles of gathering and transportation pipelines, 20 processing plants with 4.8 billion cubic feet of net processing capacity, and seven fractionators with 260,000 barrels per day of net fractionation capacity.

THE CHALLENGE

The Compressor Station faced carryover which which repeatedly collapsed the downstream amine coalescer filters. 

Jonell’s challenge was to create a variation of medias that would eliminate downstream contaminants and protect equipment. Due to the corrosive nature within this process, structural compenents of the filters would also be tested. 

THE SOLUTION

Jonell contructs media variation for process which eliminates monthly change-out. 

Jonell used a standard design which improved the results to some degree. Lab testing was used to determine the exact media layers required to eliminate all contaminants. By changing the core to stainless steel, the concern for corrosion was substantially diminished. The TwistLOK consists of multi-layered 0.2 - 0.3 microns for the first stage of filtration and 0.3 micron depth media for the second stage and has substantially improved the operation.

THE RESULTS

By installing Twist-LOK filters, the station reduced the frequency of filter change-outs.

The applications were complex and ultimately required three variations of media layers. The Jonell team reduced the need for filter change-outs from every month to every 5 - 6 months. This has helped clean the downstream process and has maintained the functionality of the Amine coalescer.
